Pinar is a frequent public speaker and guest lecturer, as well as panel and podcast host of What's Wrong With, a series of discussions with progress makers and experts to diagnose real problems, ideate solutions, and raise awareness to the general public. Pinar is also part-time faculty at Parsons School of Design Strategies and serves on the Board of Directors of Open Style Lab, a nonprofit organization initiated at MIT, with the purpose of making style accessible to people of all abilities. won three international awards, and has been accepted to EU’s Climate KIC Accelerator in Netherlands and Plug and Play Incubator in California, USA. New York Functional Furniture - an e-commerce platform for functional furniture designed in NYC - was acquired by Lazzoni, USA after its showroom opening in 2015 and the clean-tech startup Sponge Inc. Prior to SOUR, Pinar co-founded various ventures where she helped set up company infrastructure and grow them through funding or incubation, achieving international recognition and awards.

In addition to managing the business operations, Pinar leads the strategic planning, research, and partnerships efforts of the studio. Since 2015, Pinar has been the Partner of SOUR (formerly known as Eray/Carbajo), an international, award-winning architecture and design studio with the mission to address social and urban problems through sustainable, adaptive, and inclusive methodologies. Kirsten received her undergraduate degree in Social Science from Hampshire College, her master’s degree in Education from Teacher’s College at Columbia University, and her training in innovation and facilitation methods from SIT (Systematic Inventive Thinking) and ToP (Technology of Participation). She says “I am delighted to teach courses in ‘Design Thinking and Communication’ and ‘Innovation on Demand.’ I love our students because they have such creative, diverse, and fascinating life and work experiences and we activate these gifts through innovation concepts and tools.” Now, in addition to her consulting practice, Kirsten teaches at Pratt Institute. As the former Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at Pearson, the world’s leading educational textbook publisher, she oversaw the creation of breakthrough “digital-first” K-12 curriculum and acted as a corporate on-call innovation coach for their next-generation projects. Kirsten learned this craft by helping education teams come up with uniquely innovative product ideas and then turn them into reality. Going beyond unfocused brainstorming-they help teams learn fail-safe methods of unlocking creativity to produce new ideas that stand out from the competition. Kirsten Richert is the CEO of Richert Innovation Consulting, a firm that helps leaders with strategic planning, product and service innovation, and organizational development.
